hope vale 2008

Pelican 1 has begun the 5th Hope Vale project. This year the program is a larger and more ambitious one, bringing together new partners and people who are coming along to help create a month long project. Pelican is looking spic and span after a major overhaul and looking forward to her adventure in Cape York.

TWO BAYS TASSIE

Pelican 1 is sailing down to Tasmania's East Coast on the 23rd of May to talk to a range of coastal managers and land holders about the possibility of running a similar program to Two Bays in Victoria. The program will focus on Great Oyster Bay and Spring Bay. Specifically the Two Bays Tasmania project aims:

  • to develop a community monitoring and research program to better understand values and threats to coastal, estuarine and marine ecosystems in Great Oyster Bay and Spring Bay
  • to undertake interpretation of the natural values of the bays
  • to undertake forums and community events to explore coastal and catchment issues and opportunities to protect and improve environmental health
  • as a major platform for managers to deliver key messages regarding storm water quality, water conservation, catchment health, and links to the coastal, estuarine and marine health.
