Victoria Laurie, The Australian Kavisha Mazzella is a musician and singer who crosses musical boundaries and create community experiences in her shows .She makes passionate, life-affirming music which is an energetic fusion of her own original music in which you can hear echoes of Italian folk traditions with Country, Celtic and Gypsy.
Early
days of music saw her busking in the streets of Fremantle and Europe (she got arrested in
Copenhagen and spent the day in the local lock-up for busking before
1pm!)and playing the Stables Folk Club and Fly By Night Club in
Fremantle.It wasnt til Franco Di Chieras film " The Joys Of The Women"
in 1993 came to national television that she became known to a national audience!
Kavisha is currently the Musical Director of Melbourne's vivacious Italian Women's choir "
La Voce Della Luna"for the last 13 years.Check out Kavisha and the

She
has given workshops in Australia and Italy in voice and Italian folk
traditions. Her latest cd "Silver Hook Tango " is out through
Blackmarket Music in Australia. Produced by Irish guitar Master Gerry O'Beirne and recorded at Spring Studios
by Harry Williamson this album was nominated for an ARIA award.
She is a recent member of the Charcoal Club a project initiated by Aboriginal activist /Filmaker Richard
Frankland with Andy Baylor and has a history of collaborations with
artists such as Kutcha Edwards,Kev Carmody and Archie Roach & Ruby
Hunter ,Neil Murray,Mick Thomas and folk legend Judy Small and classical guitarist Seb Jorgensen,Donal Lunny,Ross Bolleter,John Reed,Peter Grayling and Lee Buddle.
Currently she is performing with Greek- albanian musican and composer
Irine Vela and percussionist Peter Vadiveloo making
up the Kavisha Mazzella trio . She also is a guest member of the Bella
Ciao Trio with italo Australian jazz artists trumpeter Gianni Marinucci
and
drummer Ronny Ferella .She has also collaborated with Author Arnold
Zable to create a theatre show of storytelling and music about human
rights & refugees called " Anytime the wind can change"They perform
this show for community groups and high schools.
Kavisha is a winner
of various awards including Port Fairy Artist of the Year 2004,
the 1998 ARIA for her album " Fisherman's Daughter" and the Italia Nel
Mondo Award from the Italian Government in 2000 for her contribution to
Italian Culture in Australia.She sings in Italian, italian dialects and English amongst
other languages.She makes music that comes from the heart and her
performances have people singing along before they know it.
