EVENT: Globe to Globe World Music Festival 2010

DATE & TIME: Day 1: Saturday, January 23 from 12noon-10pm

Day 2: Sunday, January 24 from 12noon-6pm.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Globe to Globe World Music Festival is proudly presented by the City of Kingston and supported by the Victorian Multicultural Commission. Promoting peace, harmony and cultural diversity through music, dance and exotic cuisines, this much-loved festival has become one of Victoria’s premier world music events and attracts more than 20,000 people over the two days.

FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS

  • WORLD MUSIC STAGE - featuring performances by renowned world music artists including: Diego Guerrero Quintet, Batucada Sound Machine, Afro Dizzi Act, Soteria Bell, Jaspora, Cookin’ on 3 Burners with Kylie Auldist, Kavisha Mazzella Trio, Mumbai Mail, Sol Nation, San Lazaro, Saoirse, Western Creation, El Jadida and Friends, Manta, Son Corners and Rebetiki.
  • FOLKLORIC STAGE - featuring Dya Singh, Stars of the Cook Islands, Flirting Mazurkas, One Africa, Jayadi, Vietnamese Lion Dance and other folk, dance and cultural performances.
  • DRUMMING AND DANCE WORKSHOPS – learn the art of drumming and a range of different international dances.
  • EXOTIC CUISINE - businesses, restaurants and community groups will showcase their international cuisine, beers and wine.
  • MARKET STALLS - selling everything from jewellery to art and fair trade products.
  • TOUCH FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT - see teams representing different parts of the globe battle it out on the field.
  • EXHIBITION SOCCER MATCH - Cleeland United and Victoria Police will demonstrate their silky soccer skills on Sunday, January 24 at 3pm.
  • RIDES AND AMUSEMENTS for children.
  • FIREWORKS DISPLAY at 10pm Saturday.

There’s plenty to tempt your taste-buds at Globe to Globe with exotic cuisines and beverages.

  • No BYO alcohol is permitted.
  • This is a dog free event.
  • There is a $2 gold coin entry donation.

GETTING THERE

Some parking is available at Namatjira Park in Springs Road (Mel Ref 79 A4) and in the surrounding streets (please adhere to parking signs). Cycling, walking or public transport is a great alternative and a sustainable way to get to the event. For example:

  • Catch the train on the Pakenham line to Clayton station. Then catch either Bus 703, 733 or 631 which travels along Centre Rd, Clayton South. Get off at the Springs Road stop. Walk 530 metres along Springs Road (8 mins) to Namatjira Park; or
  • Catch the train on the Frankston line to Bentleigh Station. From here, catch Bus 703 which travels along Centre Rd, Clayton South. Get off at the Springs Road stop. Walk 530 metres along Springs Road (8 mins) to Namatjira Park; or
  • Catch Bus 631 from Westfield Southland, which travels along Centre Rd, Clayton South. Get off at the Springs Road stop. Walk 530 metres along Springs Road (8 mins) to Namatjira Park.
