See the characters interact
Meet the characters of the Commedia dell’Arte; agile Arlecchino, lazy Pulcinella, blustering Capitano, miserly Pantalone, pompous Dottore, the swooning Sweethearts, and others. Learn historical background and social context of early theatre as you laugh, watch skits, followed by question and answer session, time permitting.
(Suitable Upper primary To High School - Duration 55 minutes)

Be entertained as you learn, join in some songs + movements
Take your class on an entertaining musical tour of Italy, as two Italian village street singers play a variety of traditional instruments. Explore the sounds and strange stories of Italian folk music, from the passionate rhythms of the Tarantella to the haunting harmonies of the mountain songs of the north-festive carnival songs from the village piazza of the last century!

CAPITANO SPACCA-ZUCCHINI

A classic Commedia Dell’Arte scenario
Capitano Spacca Zucchini is based on traditional Commedia Dell’Arte shows, using all the main characters of commedia in a plot that is part soap opera, part comedy and totally off the wall.
Follows the story of the two lovers Isabella and Flavio, about to marry and live “happily ever after”, until the unfortunate arrival of Capitano Spacca Zucchini! Meet the agile Arlecchino, Pulcinella the starving servant, Pantalone the greedy treasurer, bumbling Dottore, wise maid Colombina. Includes music, song, Italian vocabulary, question and answer.

Council workers carrying out ridiculous tasks and have the occasional “Smoko “(designated workers health break), they can sing, drink tea and wear a lot of zinc!

We are councilmen
and we wear really bright orange clothes
we have lots of fun
working out in the sun
with a blob of zinc cream on our nose”

Roving Characters

Capture the mystery and romance of the Venetian carnival, our masked characters will add a uniquely theatrical element to your event.
Characters interact with the audiences or parade through the space while playing music. See Gallery for more roving characters. Also includes the Black Nonnas.
