italian Folk Song workshops



Since the 80's Kavisha has been studying Italian Folk songs. Fully committed to the memories of migrants through songs, she has collected learnt and made recordings of these song as well as writing original compositions about the immigration experience .She is one of Australia's finest exponents of Italian Folk tradition.

In her workshop you will explore history, language and custom through regional folk songs of Italy It is a fun workshop where you explore the fun, beauty, sadness and sheer comedy of this rich folksong tradition.You can learn songs of protest, work,love and sorrow. This is available for any age and class size, from schools to adult groups .Kavisha has taught at many music festivals and schools 

She has released 6 Italian Folksong recordings . They are Flowers in the Desert (1991)  with I Papaveri (the Poppies),"The Joys Of The Women" (1993) with Fremantle's Italian Women's Choir , " Stepping Out"(1997) and "Luna Yarra" (2007) with La Voce Della Luna (The Voice Of The Moon) Melbourne Italian Women's Choir produced by Paul Petran of the Radio National ABC .  "Suitcase Serenata"(2010) with i Viaggiatori. In 2014 Kavisha released RITURNELLA 13 songs of Love and betrayal from a 500 year period. All cds contain translations in English and  provide a good tool for italian language teachers.

Kavisha co - leads an annual culture and singing retreat in Italy called "Cantiamo in Tuscany".This is held usually in the italian Springtime and is based in Lucca and Chianti Region near Siena. Songs learnt over the 12 day period are Italian folk songs.
